I've been AWOL
And I apologize. Not much has been getting made, we're moving, things are a big crazy mess. I finished the baby quilt and forgot to take a picture (mea culpa, I know); I got a new phone, so there'll be pictures of a camera case very soon indeed. We're buying a house (woohoo!!) so there'll be pictures of that as well, I promise. Just wanted to check in and say hello, and no, I'm not dead....

Ma'am, please haul down your skirt....
.... I can see your penis.
I should add a disclaimer here that I don't care what people do. I think people should be able to live their lives how they wish, without fear of persecution, and I try not to judge people based on how they look. Not saying there aren't a lot of times that I see someone, and in my head go, 'hhhhhhwwwhhhhaaaaaat??'; all I'm saying is that I won't treat someone differently because of that. Even if I am thinking, but. What? Why? So this is what happened...
(I can't give credit for the picture; I don't know where it's from... but it's lovely).
I met a friend tonight for coffee, which was a good time. It was a very nice day, we sat outside, and the coffee was good, and the brownie was delicious, and just before we left, a very tall, very thin lady walked by, and I just saw her back on, but I asked Ro, "Was that a man?"
"No. I think she was a hooker, though."
So while I'm marveling at how skinny this person was, another lady walks by. Considerably more shapely. Considerably larger. Especially in the shoulders. Black wrap dress; blond bob, and I'm thinking, okay, if this is a woman, she must be the one Ross was dating on friends (Don't call her broadback!). Then I saw the shoes: clunky and black, and didn't go with that dress at all. Not to mention, they were quite large. Thankfully, Ro knocked over her tea, so I went inside to get napkins, and these two ladies were standing in line chatting with one another, adam's apples just a-bobbin'. We turned to leave, and there were 3 more of them just on their way in (I don't mean to make them sound like the living dead, I really don't, I'm just not sure how else to describe this); I was getting to my car just as another lady got out of hers.
Now. Like I said, I don't care what people do. Whether they were cross-dressers, or transgendered, or maybe just liked a breeze on their doin's, I genuinely, couldn't care less.
But I don't understand. I have a job where I wear work boots and coveralls; I dress pretty casually regardless of where I'm going. While I love skirts in the summer, I've never found it comfortable to pile on the jewelery/makeup/undergarments. I do it when it's 'necessary' but if it wasn't what society deems appropriate for certain situations, I wouldn't. The main reason: pantyhose. These were designed by either a sadist, or the devil himself. I can be ready to go, and by the time I've wrestled myself into those, I'm sweating, I'm angry, my hair's a mess, and I've put my thumbs through the thighs. The idea of anyone enjoying this completely escapes me.
And also: where do they buy those shoes?
I love Halifax.

I don't know if any one noticed...
but I may not have updated yesterday. And that may be because I did NOTHING. But I don't want to say for sure.
What I will say is Happy Monday (yea, yea, boooooo monday! Down with monday! Blah blah. I like my job! I was a little excited it was Monday).
However, my super job is keeping me from sewing. And to that, I boooo. Boooooo. Hiss. Booooooooo. Back to the creative stuff when I get my time organized a little better, cross my heart. Tonight, my creativity will be limited to making my lunch, so I leave you with this:

Walter, Walter? What Walter?*
In summation: I started a job, and I've been missing my sewing machine. Nothing new has got started; nothing started has been finished. Tomorrow. Tomorrow I sew. There will be pictures and updates, I swear. Also: I think I found my new machine. It's $170 at Walmart; $119 plus shipping at amazon. If I amazon it, I can get The Money Pit/The 'Burbs. Is there any question, really?
Apparently, there's new Pride And Prejudice and Zombies book, Dawn of the Dreadfuls. Guess I better get that first one finished. Since, y'know, holy crap, I will be able to afford stuff again!! It is a very exciting prospect. In other news: I need a nap. This working 5 days a week (working my arse off, might I add. Did I mention that I really like this job? I suspect it will be a very good thing) is going to take some getting used to.
I apologize for my absence. I'll try harder. Really, I will. I'll be back tomorrow. Promise.
*I haven't seen this movie in a while; if you haven't seen it, I recommend it.

C'mon people of Halifax! What do you want from me??
First, I'd like to say that the craft fair was very well advertised. I met some awesome vendors, saw many, many things I wanted to buy (and ran into a friend of mine from school. And there was fudge. It was, overall, an awesome day). Except. The crowd was sparse. And the people. Well, quite frankly, they weren't friendly. I don't expect everyone to buy, but if you're coming out, say hello. Say how are you. Say lovely day out there/how about this rain/did you see the hockey game last night? I was disappointed, I won't lie. I mean, I would say about 80% of these people were very.... high-faluttin'? Bordering on condescending? Seemed like they were just too good to say hi? I mean, there were several people who seemed shocked when we spoke. There were several who almost seemed scared. There were a couple people who just ignored us. And that, ladies and gentleman, is just damn rude. My advice: if you hate people, stay in your house. Chances are, most people aren't going to like you either.
Moving on: I tried not to buy. I did. But I couldn't walk away from this
A notebook. A teeny notebook. That I can wear. So lovely. You should check her out.
And I fell in love with this guy a little, and my awesome sister brought him back to our table to come home with me. I think I'll call him Rusty.
Just incredible. Really. So unique and just, just... oh, just go look!

I know, I know, I was just here earlier. Don't worry, soon I won't have all day to do nothing (YAYAYAY!!) After months of watching every. Cent. I. Spent. I actually went out and bought something frivolous...
The sunnies of 2010. Nine West, from The Bay. And I got them 25% off!!
In case you're wondering, this is what $80 of stuff from Michael's looks like, but oh! I love the clearance!! $35. Fat quarters and jewelery charms, and clips for my pouches (which I can't find at the dollarama anymore! Damn! Someone found my stash!!). On the left? That's a windup gator I got for the boy. Kept him amused all evening. I've named him Chompy (the gator I mean. The boy already has a name). The only thing I paid full price for was the split rings, and $0.10 each doesn't seem so bad. The bucket is to replant my tree in. Poor little tree, his feet are getting squished.
These were $0.99 (originally $1.17, according to the old Zeller's tag). Apparently someone's granny didn't like to give money. Bless her heart, cash is a crap gift, and I have better plans for these!!!
I'm not sure what the deal is with this pin cushions; my mom has one, just round, and it lacks the cubby. I grandmother had one that lived on top of the wall phone; it was two circular pin cushions with two of these little guys behind them. This one was never used, and the centre part is pretty sweet. $1.99? That's pretty sweet too!
This will be a pin cushion. $2.99 and I couldn't leave him behind (but I'm not going to keep him, so it's okay!). The bag from a stationary store was crumpled up in the cart, and there was a receipt for $9.34 from March 2, 1984. I hope this person doesn't need to return anything.
This was only $0.99. It's only wee, like 2.5"x6" ish. and it's a Christmas gift for someone who'll like it even more than I do :D And that's saying something cause I like it A LOT. Like, really. Like, scratch what I said about a gift, I'm totally keeping this for myself.
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE that Value Village sells material now? Not sporadically, like how they would sometimes have it before, but now it's yards and yards. I got about 4-5 metres of this; it's a mid weight cotton upholstery material, for.... wait for it.... wait.... $3.99. I'm keeping it for sewing room curtains when we move. And then maybe (probably. There's A LOT of it) there'll still be enough for a bag (do I seem a little obsessed with bags? Okay, but I'm not ready to admit it yet). I think a very bold wall paper for one wall will be in order to go with this. I have plans, oh yes, I do (but the perfect cabinets? Someone snatched 'em up before I could. Alas. Next time, they'll be mine!!).
In market news, which I'm very excited for, I nabbed a great counter top hand towel rack ($1.99) to display my pouches, and wallets :D. Got a pretty sweet scarf for $5.99 too (it was brand spanking new), which made me glad I hadn't gotten the $25 one I was looking at at The Bay. V. happy Tuesday indeed.
Happy Tuesday
It really is a happy Tuesday! I start work on Thursday (after 6 months off!!). I'm off to buy the sunnies of 2010. Got to hang out with a friend of mine last night and lay some hardwood. Three more sleeps til live action zombies! Four more til the craft fair. I'm off on this sunny, springy day to do some running around, but first, an ad that made me chuckle:
I'll admit it took me a minute to clue in (it's for Comfort fabric softener). D'oh. But clever. Very Clever.
